Applying queer perspectives in feminist peace research means to critically examine how normativities of sexuality, sex, and gender underwrite both academic approaches and actual peace and conflict practices and, where needed, to rethink some of the concepts and assumptions that inform our work. Queer researchers have offered important reconceptualisations of notions such as “security”, and have asked who should be the subject of feminist analysis and feminist politics, and who is included and excluded in existing institutional frameworks of peace and security. This chapter, drawing on existing scholarship both within and outside the fields of International Relations (IR) and Peace and Conflict studies, identifies three points of intervention, arguing that queer scholarship offers productive ways to rethink problems related to (a) Visibility/Invisibility, (b) Space/Geopolitics and (c) Time/Temporality, all concerns that are highly relevant, if not always explicitly discussed, when studying gendered aspects of peace.
