The challenge for me in outlining a personal biography that explores how I came to activist archaeology is that I don’t think I can point to any eureka moments, either deciding to be an archaeologist or an activist. For me, archaeology was something I discovered in university, embraced as much for the community it gave me as for the intellectual excitement it offered. Through that connection, I found my own competencies and capabilities, a social milieu and language, humor, passion, righteous indignation, and a livelihood and occupation that I continue to feel privileged to be a part of. And from archaeology I have met many people who would become colleagues; friends; and in one special instance, my love-leading to the family I am fortunate to have today. Archaeology, in effect, is really who I am.
