Para isso, foram utilizados dados dos Censos Demográficos de 2000 e 2010. he article aims to study housing precariousness in a new objet of analysis, the São Paulo macrometropolis. It is a city-region spread over a radius of 150 km with the center in the São Paulo city, comprising 174 municipalities, with a population of more than 30 million people and with a Gross Domestic Product of 82% of the state product and 28% of the national one. This paper questions the role, the dimension and the characterization of the squatter settlements in this city-region. The guiding question refers to the dispersion of the favelas in the urban fabric of the macrometropolis. Are they leaving the unique role of structural element that they usually have in the metropolitan space and are also formatting smaller cities, inside or outside metropolitan areas? In other words, are the shanty towns being dispersed, like the population and the industrial plants? For this research, the data used are from the Demographis Censuses of 2000 and 2010
