After a brief presentation of the academic career of Felix Mutombo-Mukendi, who died in 2020, the contribution provides an outline of his African mystical and political theology. Based on two of his publications, the article presents the essential features, sources, limits and perspectives of an unfinished but fruitful work. Four main axes have retained attention: the critique of theology, the critique of society, the critique of the Church and the rehabilitation of the ancestral cosmogony. Through this critical thinking of Mutombo, a real proposal of ways for Christian believers to participate in the recovery of African societies emerges.
