Geographic Information Systems Studies Artificial Intelligence Applications Advanced Decision-Making Techniques

Abstract

This entry introduces the concept of GeoAI, or geospatial artificial intelligence. GeoAI is an emerging research area which combines artificial intelligence (AI), geospatial big data, and parallel computing for geospatial problem‐solving. The entry presents a brief history of AI in geography and the recent evolutional development of GeoAI (especially with deep learning and the knowledge graph), as well as their applications. Discussions highlight remaining challenges of GeoAI and its future research and educational directions.
