There are several lexical domains that occur with frequency throughout most of the early medieval English vernacular poetic production. Some of them havebeen exhaustively analysed, but others, like the lexical domain of BEAUTY, have not been paid enough attention. This is the purpose of this monograph. Throughthe implementation of corpus linguistics and corpus- based lexical semantics methods, the study outlined in this monograph aims determining the exact roleof the Old English terms for BEAUTY in the Anglo- Saxon formulaic style, as well as looking into how these are used and what exactly are their semantic contentsand associations. This study proves that the lexical domain of BEAUTY contains many different literal and figurative expressions and that they are usedfrequently in early medieval English verse with diverse purposes, from emphasising aesthetic experience as an embodied phenomenon, to conveying abstractand religious concepts and experiences in more accessible terms.
