Abstract

Political psychology in Paraguay as a research area has had a limited development and with appearances and contributions more identifiable for its circumstancial character than for its orderly system. However, a few authors demonstrated interest in associating the study of behavior with variables related with the political contingency. The depht of these contributions is more congruent with the theoretical elaborations and reflections than to the practice of empirical research. Nevertheless, there are some very significant events although isolated that point in a very clear way to the study of political behavior, as the organization of conferences related to the specialty. A difficulty to achieve a more continuous development of political psychology lies in the sporadic character of these meetings and in that its organization takes place in a very external way to the university context. These institutions have not assimilated the concept of political psychology as an autonomous research area. This article proposes the following objectives: 1) To study some publications produced during the first half of the XXth century for authors than in its origin were lawyers or economists and who keep general conceptual relations with the study of the human behavior and its probable encounters with what today is known as political psychology, 2) To analyze the conception of political behavior and the topics of interest that appear in publications pertaining to events such as congresses organized in the country and other areas of research more closely associated with academia, 3) To explore the connections between political psychology and other fields of psychology that kept relations of affinity with it, in particular community psychology, 4) To suggest a research agenda for the establishment of a political psychology in the country in the medium term, as well as an analysis of its relevance to the development of psychology in Paraguay.
