An update of the "National Survey of Library Services to the Aging" was undertaken to (1) identify, describe, and compare the extent and variety of current services with those in 1971 and (2) measure variables in organizational support and suggest how they might influence service provision. Based on data collected from 318 libraries located across the United States, only limited progress was discovered. The great majority gave a low priority to program development for older adults; funds and staffing remained meager. There was little evidence that public library services had kept pace with the increase in the number of persons aged sixty-five or over in the nation. Actions were suggested to ensure that, in the future, elders receive the attention they warrant.
