This paper discusses the issue of language and culture with a focus on the culturally induced language misunderstanding, confusion, and conflicts as a result of the global language contact. By analyzing the relationship between language and culture, evidence is given to show the prominence of cultural issues in language contact. The central argument of the paper is the view that in terms of possession of culture, not all bilinguals are invariably to be bicultural and, thus, a transfer of the culture of one language into the other may very likely lead to language misunderstanding, confusion and even conflicts. 1.
