Abstract The article discusses the results of studying the chemical composition of the metal and Pb–Pb data of silver coins of the Bosporus and Ionia from the excavations at Phanagoria. The sample includes 21 coins belonging to two chronological groups dated by 494–400 and 120/110–90/80 BC. These are the mints of Panticapaeum, Sindika, Phanagoria, and the unknown center of Ionia (?). The study of the chemical composition of the metal was carried out by the method of standardless XRF. Qualitative analysis for some of the coins was carried out by scanning electron microscopy (SEM, ERM) at the National Research Center Kur-chatov Institute. The study of the isotopic composition in silver coins was carried out by the multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS). The data obtained indicate the use for minting Bosporan coins in the 5th–1st centuries BC of silver from epithermal gold–silver and silver–polymetallic deposits of various regions of the Mediterranean, namely: deposits of Lavrion, Macedonia, Thasos Island, and the group of islands of the Cyclades archipelago. It was found that high-grade silver of coins of the 5th century BC was additionally diluted with copper and used for minting coins in the 2nd–1st century BC.
