Chapter 2 presents a variety of basic research streams that are related to our central thesis. In this chapter we will discuss the foundations of Importance from several scholarly viewpoints. Specifically we will scour a broad array of disciplines and engage a diverse set of thinkers and researchers to approximate the essence of Importance. We will do this by asking the question “Am I important?” from a (1) physical perspective, as a material entity; (2) psychological perspective, as an individual entity; (3) sociological perspective, as a collective entity; (4) managerial perspective, as a functional or organizational entity; (5) institutional perspective, as a political, economic, and legal entity; and (6) philosophical perspective, as an abstract or spiritual entity. At the conclusion of the chapter, we will coalesce the upshots of the above insofar as they inform the aforementioned integrated model of Importance. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
