The framework of developmental assets articulates supports, opportunities, relationships, and personal strengths that contribute to youth well‐being, including the avoidance of high‐risk behaviors and engagement in positive or thriving behaviors. It operationalizes core principles and practices of positive youth development, including a focus on strengths in young people and their communities, a bioecological approach that emphasizes the interactions between persons and their contexts, and a focus on relationships as catalysts for development. This entry summarizes the framework and its underlying theory, research on young people's experiences of developmental assets, and how the framework has been utilized to advance policy and practice in the United States and globally.
