Abstract This article examines the responsibilities and roles of higher education in fostering musically engaged adults by exploring three primary contexts: (a) the adult population within the university; (b) the adult population in the community in which the university resides; and (c) the interactive university-community adult population. Adults whose lives are enriched through musical engagement are more likely to have the passion and the power to advocate for, and facilitate musical engagement for others.
