Abstract An analysis is made of the interactions between environmental policy and international business. More specifically, a conceptual framework is developed that allows classification of the various types of environmental regulations facing firms engaged in international business. In addition, an analysis is performed of the different environmental strategies that can be pursued by multinational enterprises (MNEs). It is argued that the managerial choices made are strongly influenced by external elements such as compliance incentives provided by public agencies, divergence/consistency among national environmental policy regimes, regional integration trends, etc.
