“As long as there have been schools, there have been children who had difficulty with learning. Slowly, these children were differentiated into groups based on known or presumed cause. Those who were mentally retarded were identified. Many others were considered emotionally disturbed. Still others were thought to have difficulty because of environmental factors. Some were felt to have not received the necessary cognitive and language stimulation early in life; others grew up in a culture that did not value learning; still others were considered the product of an inadequate school system.... Gradually, it became clear that many children who had difficulty learning had something wrong with their central nervous systems.” These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
