Tri et affectation des détenus en régime différencié

Abstract

Cet article propose, à partir d’observations non participantes, menées dans un centre de détention de rendre compte du système de tri des détenus institué à l’entrée pour affecter ceux-ci dans différents régimes de détention. Chacun de ces régimes de vie est caractérisé par des contraintes, des contrôles et des interactions spécifiques qui produisent des effets sur un ensemble de décisions relatives aux sanctions disciplinaires, au travail et à l’aménagement de peine des détenus. La circularité du complexe décisionnel produit inversement des effets sur les échanges en accentuant les particularismes interactionnels de chacun des régimes. Les interdépendances entre ensemble décisionnel et interactions viennent en retour accroître la confiance accordée par les surveillants au système de tri initial. On the basis of a nonparticipant observation in a detention center, an explanation is formulated about how detainees are screened upon admission and then assigned to various forms of detention. Each form is characterized by the specific factors, controls and interactions that affect a set of decisions about disciplinary measures, work and the sentences of detainees. The circularity in this complex decision-making process affects, in turn, exchanges by reinforcing the interactional particularities of each form of detention. The interdependence between decision-making and interactions feeds back into the process so as to increase the confidence that corrections officers have in the initial screening and assignment of detainees.
