Abstract Mary Cover Jones was an undergraduate at Vassar and graduated in 1919. She received a PhD from Columbia in 1926. Most of her career was spent at the Institute of Human Development of the University of California at Berkeley. Much of her later work on longitudinal studies of development was in collaboration with her husband, Harold E. Jones, whom she met and married (1920) during graduate school at Columbia. Although best known for her early work on fear conditioning in children, her most lasting contribution was as a pioneer in the design and completion of developmental psychology.
