Social age places an older adult in a social context. Social age is defined as interactive, communal context of how individuals age. The concept introduces role theory and role performance as a vehicle for evaluating an older client's situational and environmental circumstances. To understand social age, social workers must first comprehend role theory, which provides an explanation of the social influences on everyday activity. The successful enactment of an individual's social age or role performance at all stages of life is a complex phenomenon that involves the interplay between psychological adaptations and societal expectations. Socialization is the process by which a person takes on a succession of roles and changing role constellations, learning the behaviors appropriate to his or her gender, social class, ethnic group, and age. Spirituality may include a person's relationship with his or her faith/ religious community or an inner system of beliefs.
