Abstract Parliamentary discourse is a confrontation talk where ideological positions are related to interactional roles. Intensification is the main politicians’ strategy, an identity device, and a mark of this professional discourse. It appears in all fields: semantic meaning, sentence intonation, stress, illocutionary acts, grammatical structures and argumentative operators. Men and women use it in a similar way. This chapter aims at analysing parliamentary discourse from a pragmatic perspective, where ideology and identity work together in the process of cognitive and discourse construction.
