This article is an in-depth review of the history of what is now called the National Museum of Anthorpology, the oldest museum institution in Mexico. Based on the known antecedents, we delve into previously little researched aspects of how the archaeology section progressed and improved the way in which it presented the various objects in its collection to the public. As well as the criteria used to classify the collection itself and the various academic disputes that this generated. This section went from being in a room with “showcases” at the end of the 19th century to occupying half of the old museum on Moneda Street – with the creation of rooms fivided by cultural affiliation- at the end of the 1940s, XX century. The text concentrates on the Teotihuacan room, created in those years, as well as on the history of its collection.
