Within the context of veterinary nursing, the use of reflection can aid in the development of both professional and personal insight, which has the potential to impact and improve clinical practice and enhance patient welfare. Re-evaluating the Experience consists of four elements: association, integration, validation and appropriation of the knowledge as belonging to the individual. The teaching of practical skills was at its core and students spent most of their training in the workplace. Reflective practice is a transferable skill and as such its use has been adopted in higher education as an integral element of a continuum of learning that extends beyond graduation into the workplace. In veterinary nursing, it can serve to enhance best practice and improve animal welfare and, in addition, it develops a personal insight that can enrich the individual's self-worth.
