The phenomenon of ecclesiastical influencers is of hybrid character in several respects, unites different specialist debates and thus gives rise to a new field of research. Not only do their appearances as pastors and private persons blur the boundaries between person, institution and office, but the power dynamics within the church shift and a participatory form of joint theologising emerges. Those influencers therefore offer a special potential for a church-theoretical perspective that focuses on the communication of the gospel as a free practice in the horizon of theological capacity for language and action.
