College and university radio, type free radio, community radio stations in France dates back to the 60's. The pioneering experience, in this framework, in France can be considered the appearance in 1969 of Radio Campus Lille. In the Spanish case, was the University of La Laguna, in 1987, the first higher education institution to promoted the first broadcasts by students of University College San Fernando, but the first references can be dated in 1979, with the emissions by The National Distance Education University (UNED) through Radio 3. Today, French college radios are grouped in Radio Campus France. For its part, the Spanish university radios are grouped in the Association of Radio University (ARU), created in 2011. Although the number of college radio stations is more or less similar in both countries, development reality is quite different. This article is an analysis and critical review of the current state of the university radio in France and Spain.
