The population of adults over 65 will increase significantly by 2050, and technology can support their independence, prevent functional or cognitive decline, limit chronic diseases, and promote active aging. But seniors must have digital competencies to use technology effectively. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the benefits, opportunities, and limitations presented using technology in older people and its relationship with digital competencies. To this end, we will present a literature review in the Scopus and Web of Science databases published between 2013 and 2022 using the PRISMA method. The results highlight the positive impact of social networks on the health of the elderly population by reducing loneliness and isolation and acquiring digital competencies.
