It is required to understand visitor expectations and experience in order to offer them a better service. This chapter looks into the international visitor experience at museum encounters; reception/ticket office, museum galleries and exhibits, service staff, museum stores/souvenir selling area, surrounding of the museum, and tourist convenience and comfort especially referring to the eight museums administered by the Department of National Museums in Sri Lanka. The data were collected in between January and July 2019 38 through a questionnaire survey where it ended up with 356 usable and completed questionnaires using the stratified random sampling technique. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 for the mean ranking analysis and bivariate analysis. The mean ranking analysis of survey data shows that the visitors to the museums of the Department of National Museums have immensely satisfied with the museum galleries/exhibits and the service staff and dissatisfied with the tourist convenience and comfort facilities within the museums. The correlation analysis between the visitor experience variables and revisit intention shows that “museum galleries/exhibits” ( r = 0.491), “museum staff” ( r = 0.491) have a moderate positive relationship with museum revisit intension and “museum souvenir selling area” ( r = 0.190) represents a poor positive relationship with museum revisit intension. The correlation analysis to measure the relationship between the museum variables and the tourists’ recommendation, results in the highest positive relationship between “surrounding of the Museum” and the “Recommendation” ( r = 0.619, P = 0.000) which derives the meaning that the majority of the museum visitors have recommended for potential visitors as a result of the better surrounding of the museums. The lowest relationship shows between “Museum souvenir selling area” and “Recommendation” ( r = 0.163, P = 0.046). Other variables represent moderate positive relationships with “recommendation.” These results finally conclude that the Department of National Museums should more focus on enhancing visitor convenience and comfort facilities to attract more foreign visitation. That basic would then create space for tourism suppliers to promote museum tourism in Sri Lanka.
