This study aims to determine the area of the province of West Java based on the coordinates of the boundaries obtained from the GADM data base. The proposed method is the shoelace formula. This method is compared to the Karney polygon method and the area of Central Bureau of Statistics. By using the Shoelace formula and the Karney polygon method, respectively, the results obtained are 36621.2727 km2 and 36591.4566 km2 so that the absolute percentage difference with the reference area is 3.51 % and 3.43 %, respectively. That means the shoelace formula gives relatively good results. Based on the coordinates of the district, sub-district and village boundaries, it can also be determined which method is relatively better.
