This PhD thesis aims to expand our understanding on systematic classification of innovation districts, through development of a multidimensional innovation district classification framework. The framework guides the evaluation of thirty innovation districts performance in the testbed study region of South East Queensland. The thesis outputs are: (i) A validated multidimensional innovation district classification framework, (ii) Classification of the thirty innovation districts from South East Queensland under three performance levels — i.e., desired, acceptable, unsavoury — concerning their form, feature, and function characteristics, (iii) Ranking of the innovation districts according to their performance, and (iv) Identified ten innovation district typologies.
