This chapter gives student descriptors of outstanding professors. It describes student perceptions of ineffective professors and few learning styles and their classroom preferences. The chapter also describes some teaching styles and their advantages and disadvantages. It explains how the learning styles and teaching styles combine into four clusters and the associated teaching methods. The chapter demonstrates learning diversity in a class session by constructing an instructional script. Each teaching style translates into modes of behavior that include communication elements such as speaking, listening, gestures, movements, and responding. The Grasha-Riechmann Student Learning Style Scales Inventory has been used in higher education and other educational settings for more than three decades. Students with an Avoidant style achieve lower grades and those with a Participant style achieve higher ones. Students who are silent in class can participate actively in discussions outside of class.
