The article discusses the key aspects of Russia’s modern spatial policy. A brief summary of the spatial development of Russia in the post-Soviet period is summed up, the main positive and negative results of state policy in this area are listed. The key problems and disproportions that impede the spatial development of Russia and its regions are described and analyzed, including in the context of theoretical scientific approaches. It is shown that the problems generated by the current geopolitical situation, which changed dramatically in 2022, were added to the historical spatial problems. In this regard, the article formulated proposals, the implementation of which, according to the author, could improve the quality and effectiveness of the state policy on spatial development, as well as contribute to the successful solution of the problems considered in the article.
