Development Communication

Abstract

This chapter critically examines the various theories of development and the praxis of development communication. It traces the origin of the contested concept of development since it came into the popular discourse vis-à-vis the Third World countries. This chapter discusses how the paradigm of development propounded by Rostow became the basis for the praxis of development communication. The role of UN organisations in promoting the development narratives and the development communication process is scrutinised in the chapter. The chapter is an extensive analysis of the evolution of the trajectory of family planning communication metamorphosing into an intricate health communication stream.
