Abstract Copyright has never been more prominent. Right holders are more aware of their rights than ever before; users of all kinds are becoming more conditioned to the notion that payments should be made when the works of others are used (even though there is still a long way to go); governments have at last begun to appreciate the economic importance of successful copyright industries; all of which, at the international level, has led to unilateral, bilateral and multilateral activity to make the copyright system worldwide work more effectively.
