Abstract

Abstract With the occurrence of a dramatic downsizing of big corporations, the opportunity for a life-long career within one company is increasingly unrealistic. What are the alternatives? In this chapter, we explore the idea of a community-based career, in which members of an industrial community, over a lifetime, may work for or manage a series of loosely coupled or networked small and medium-sized enterprises within a geographical region.
