Abstract

Abstract Writing at the end of the northern hemisphere’s summer of 2001, in the wake of market “corrections” and the consequent subsidence of millennial excitement about a “new economy,” it is easier now than it would have been even a year ago to suggest that everything has not changed utterly. Distance is still alive and kicking; personal data assistants are just electronic notebooks; and a computer is just another tool.
