Abstract It is fair to say that international social work would not be what it is, or where it is today, without Katherine Kendall’s tireless efforts to expand its reach. Born in Scotland during the Progressive Era (and the halcyon days of Hull House!) and undoubtedly influenced by limitations society placed on her as a woman, Katherine fit well in a profession whose core principles include self-determination and the according of respect and dignity to all. An example of Katherine’s worldwide influence on social work is found in the fact that two other women in this book—Armaity Desai and Sattareh Farman Farmaian—cite her as a most valuable source of consultation and support in attaining their professional goals in their respective countries.
