Themes in Hume

Abstract

Abstract Terence Penelhum has since the 1950s been a leading contributor to studies of the thought of David Hume; he now presents a selection of the best of his essays on Hume, most of them quite recent, three of them previously unpublished. The central themes of the book are selfhood, the will, and religious belief. Penelhum’s view of Hume will be fascinating for all who work on these themes, whether from an eighteenth-century or a twentieth-century perspective.
