The purpose of this study was to examine uncertainty reduction processes in Japanese-North American dyads to determine if predictions from the theory can be extended to intercultural dyads. Results revealed consistent differences between low intimacy and high intimacy dyads. Dyadic composition, in contrast, did not influence any of the dependent measures examined. These findings are comparable to previous intercultural research on uncertainty reduction processes. Post hoc correlational- analyses further indicated that uncertainty reduction processes are related to perceived effectiveness and communication satisfaction in intercultural dyads.
