Abstract

This article discusses the scientific circulation of the newly discovered ochre painting memorial from the Budar Chuluu site of Ongon soum, Sukhbaatar province, and the numerous monuments recorded during the archaeological exploration in the region in 2020-2021. We have recorded 29 monuments of Ulaanzuukh type and 15 Durvuljin graves related to the earliest period of the region and also discovered and recorded 123 monuments with these two types (Ulaanzuukh type monuments and Durvuljin graves) of monument complexes. This new type of monument often coexists with the Ulaanzuukh grave, and in one case with Durvuljin graves and rock art (red ochre paintings) as a complex. The Budaryn Chuluu site ochre paintings do not have birds and square or round frames, but the composition of the painting contains many short vertical dashed dots, vertical lines such as horses, people, roads, and a man leading horse images are similar types of painting “Selenge”. In this article, we will hypothesize how the rectangular-shaped (“Kharaat” type monument) monument relates to the Ohre painting, then discuss the new monument type’s date, name, and purpose.
