Abstract Revealing the correlation between natural elements and religion, art, or culture through text mining of poetry provides a new perspective for in-depth interpretation of Associative Cultural Landscape. Taking Tianmu Mountain, an important spot on the Road of Tang Poetry in Eastern Zhejiang, as an example, this study focuses on 444 poems written by 269 poets from the Eastern Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty in the Tianmu Mountain region. Text mining techniques such as text segmentation and social network analysis were employed to quantitatively analyze and explore the correlation of Landscape terms in the poetry. The findings are as follows: (1) The descriptions in the poems bear witness to the beautiful and diverse Natural Landscape, the abundant Humanistic Landscape, and the unique Folk Landscape of Tianmu Mountain. (2) The poems exhibit a layered structure in which the Natural Landscape serve as the core, and the Humanistic Landscape and the Folk Landscape are interconnected and interact with each other, reflecting the religious characteristic of dual cultivation of Buddhism and Taoism in the context of landscapes in the Tianmu Mountain, the cultural characteristics of rich and flowing traditions, and the artistic characteristics of blending scenes and emotions. This study confirms the close correlation between the natural elements of Tianmu Mountain and religion, art, and culture, providing methodological support for the interpretation of features and values of global Associative Cultural Landscape, as well as important scientific evidence for their overall protection and sustainable utilization.
