This paper contributes empirically and conceptually to ongoing debates on the social and spatial implications of the circular economy in cities. Through a practice-based approach, we critically interrogate the ongoing transformation of the Binckhorst area in the Hague, to show how an otherwise self-supportive neighbourhood that developed over decades is currently taken apart in view of a rather sanitised vision on circular area development with high building densities. By dwelling on how learning at the interface of proximity and precarity is reformatting current conditions toward a circular and just Binckhorst, we attempt to broaden the horizon of potentiality for local circular economies.
