Climate change is one of the most debated and the biggest threat to humanity. With an unprecedented rise in catastrophic natural events, climate change has brought huge challenges, however, the sustainable development perspective is gradually embraced by entities and financial institutions. The financial markets and the business world across the globe are evolving to develop new products of investment avenues, such as clean energy, socially responsible investment or environmental, social, and governance (ESG) funds to prevent, mitigate, and adapt to climate change and its adverse impacts on the business and the society. Following the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015, green finance is maturing, and the focus is shifting to rely on renewable energy, limit carbon emissions, and prevent global warming. This chapter is an attempt to underpin the importance of green investment strategies to tackle climate change and investigates the role of technology in driving the transition of the financial market toward sustainable development and addresses the challenges faced by green investors.
