Abstract This chapter outlines the objectives, organization, and functions of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The establishment of the IMF ensures a stable international monetary system as a basis of international trade and capital movements while simultaneously fostering sound economic growth and contributing to a stable monetary regime of Member States. Moreover, under the IMF Agreement, stable exchange currency arrangements and the free convertibility of currencies are cornerstones of international monetary relations. The chapter further elaborates on the general obligations of IMF members and the exchange rate policies with stability and fair competitive conditions. It looks into the convertibility of currencies and restriction of exchange controls, which play a vital role in international capital movements and transboundary payments.
