Women who recognize opportunities, effectively manage resources, embrace new ventures, and take calculated risks to achieve their goals in establishing innovative companies are the leaders of a sustainable economy. The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on the entire world, with India being one of the most affected nations. Many returning immigrants found themselves unemployed. However, women, particularly those in rural and semi-urban areas, gradually emerged as new business owners across various sectors. Microbusinesses thrived as the pandemic caused a decline in demand and supply. Notably, there was a high demand for handcrafted masks, Moonj crafts, bamboo crafts, and wooden handicrafts. Women entrepreneurs have proven their ability to overcome numerous challenges, including sustainability, achieving a balance, promoting 34 equitable development, navigating diverging economies, and maximizing commercial opportunities in today’s competitive marketplace. The implementation of the One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme in Uttar Pradesh in 2018 played a significant role. Despite the economic slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the ODOP scheme gained popularity throughout Uttar Pradesh and contributed to boosting the state’s economy. During this period, women and artisans acquired digital skills, collaborated with family members, and underwent a mindset shift towards entrepreneurship in Uttar Pradesh. Even though the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme was initially implemented in Japan in 1979, it has now gained immense popularity in Uttar Pradesh. Thanks to the nationwide campaign, ODOP is once again expanding. The Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyaan and “Vocal for Local” initiatives, along with the development of women-focused handicraft companies such as wooden work, stone carving, toy making crafts, moonj craft, and bamboo craft (MSMEs), have greatly contributed to the popularity of ODOP. The purpose of this study is to assess the growth trends in women’s entrepreneurship and the impact of post-pandemic micro-enterprises (handicrafts) on women. Additionally, it examines the types of organizations, the nature of activities, and the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, as well as the entrepreneurial activities of women and women-led businesses. Finally, the opportunities provided by micro-entrepreneurial operations are explored.
