The aim of this study is to investigate the sociocultural and subjective aspects of the sexuality of elderly women living in Salvador, with special attention to the phenomenon of self-exclusion. The research arises from the need to explore how social stigmas related to aging and sexuality influence these women’s self-image and sexual behavior. Adopting a qualitative and descriptive approach, the study was conducted through Focus Groups with 10 women, selected from 30 invitees, and held online through the Zoom platform. The selection criteria were based on the order of response and suitability to the research topic. During the sessions, topics such as female masturbation, relationships in old age, social invisibility and family dynamics were explored. The results highlight the importance of recognizing and challenging the stigmas that lead to older adults' self-exclusion. The research emphasizes the valuation of sexuality as a vital aspect of older adults’ lives, essential to improve their quality of life and psychological well-being.
