Health and well-being is determined by the performance of multiple behaviours. Health-related behaviours are interconnected and co-occur as behavioural clusters at the individual, group, and social levels. This chapter gives an overview of different approaches to studying multiple health behaviours in health psychology. These include attempts to understand perceptions that cut across different behaviours (principles approach), higher-level constructs related to different behaviours and behaviour-related perceptions (global approach), and linkages among different health behaviours and how individuals change multiple behaviours (multiple behavioural approach). A novel integrated multiple behaviour perspective is introduced which focuses on perceptions that reflect on relationships across different behaviours, and theoretical advances in line with the integrated multiple behaviour perspective are presented. To improve population health, theory, and evidence-based interventions are required that ensure the application of recent advances in understanding multiple behaviour benefit society more widely.
