This paper present the results of an Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) for the Menter SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulence model due to the epistemic uncertainty in closure coefficients applied to the bi-dimensional study of the Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV) of an oscillating elastically mounted cylinder. The objective of the current study is to identify a set of closure coefficients for the Menter SST turbulence model that contribute most to the uncertainty in output quantities for the selected VIV case. The knowledge of the closure coefficients values can reduce the parametric uncertainty of relevant output quantities obtained by the URANS simulations. In the case of 2D VIV with 1-DOF, the non-dimensional amplitude A∗ and the frequency ratio f∗ are considered to be the output quantities of interest. UQ is conducted using stochastic expansions based on non-intrusive polynomial chaos. The influence of the closure coefficients on output quantities is assessed using global sensitivity analysis based on variance decomposition. The Sobol indices are used to rank the contributions of each constant. A comparison of the Sobol indices between the flow cases (obtained changing the inflow velocity) and different degree of polynomial chaos expansion, is conducted. Closure coefficients of interest are identified and compared with the previous uncertainty quantification problems in the hope of aiding modellers in improving the accuracy of the k − ω SST turbulence model.
