A recent stream of literature has highlighted how in many destinations tourist pressure compromises residents’ walking mobility and eventually forces them into a condition of disadvantage and “stuckness” that restricts access to proximity services and community life. Focusing on a distinctly tourist city like Venice, this paper adds another layer to the emerging debate on the immobilising capacity of tourist mobilities by revealing the role that parking infrastructure plays in this process. Based on semi-structured interviews with a sample of residents, the paper shows how the progressive reorientation of the parking infrastructure toward the demands of visitors reduces residents’ opportunities to secure parking. More importantly it reveals how, despite the emergence of a kaleidoscope of coping tactics, these difficulties hinder the accessibility and convenience of “faster” and longer-range mobilities for locals who are incrementally left stuck in a tourist city, facing constant material and emotional pressure, unattractive job opportunities, diminishing services and a diluting social structure.
