Nighttime tourism (NTT) has potential to revitalize heritage destinations by promoting cultural preservation, community engagement, and sustainable economic development. Night Index (N-I) is a comprehensive evaluation framework that assesses the critical dimensions of NTT: Safety and Security, Accessibility, Cultural Representation, Economic Inclusivity, and Environmental Sustainability. The framework was developed using an integrated methodology, combining FGDs and AHP. The N-I was applied to four heritage destinations in India, revealing site-specific challenges such as inadequate lighting and accessibility, waste management concerns, environmental degradation, and cultural preservation needs. Despite these, N-I consistently highlighted actionable insights for enhancing NTT. Findings suggest expanding index to additional contexts and incorporating quantitative validation for improved precision. By bridging sustainability and inclusivity, N-I offers a practical pathway to regenerative NTT while safeguarding the cultural and environmental integrity of heritage destinations.
