.In this study, our objective was to analyse how emotions, mainly curiosity, affected the visits of families with children to a health-themed science exhibition. Ten family groups participated in the study, carried out at the Museum of Life (Fiocruz / Brazil). Familial conversations and interactions were captured using a point-of-view camera. The identification of emotions was performed directly on video footage using a protocol that describes patterns of actions, interactions, and conversations observed during family visits. Our results revealed a diverse set of positive and negative valence emotions during the visit experience, such as Fun, Surprise, Worry, Confusion, and Nervousness. Curiosity stood out in this study as the most frequently occurring emotion, and was manifested through exploratory behaviours and questions, mostly on the part of the child participants. We also observed that the responses of the parents/carers did not always include a formal explanation, and usually followed causal reasoning. The type of questions asked were most associated with hedonic curiosity, in which visitors searched for responses to fill in information gaps. Regarding the roles of the parents/carers and explainers, we observed that they acted to potentiate children’s emotional and educational experiences during the exhibit visit. A key difference between these two classes of adults is that the parents/carers facilitated the child by stimulating their natural curiosity, whereas the explainers adopted a more straightforward and informative approach, offering additional information that enriched the children’s understanding of exhibit themes
