This study offers a critical discourse analysis surrounding American student protests that occurred during the Israeli war on Gaza (2023–2025). The objective of the study is to examine how two ideologically opposing media outlets—Fox News and Tasnim News Agency —construct their narratives to either legitimise or delegitimise these protests. Given that Fox News is a right-wing American outlet and Tasnim is an Iranian state-affiliated outlet, this study hypothesises that the former employs a discourse of delegitimisation, while the latter legitimises the protests—each reflecting its respective ideological stance. Two reports on the American student protests are selected from each outlet and analysed using Wodak & Resigil's (2009) Discourse–Historical Approach . The study concludes that the discursive strategies employed by Fox News were oriented towards delegitimising the protests, whereas those used by Tasnim served to legitimise them.
