Bölge Bilimi’nin Gelişiminde Coğrafyacıların Rolü

Abstract

Bu makale 1950\\'lerden gunumuze Bolge Bilimi\\'nin tarihsel gelisimini ve bu gelismede cografyacilarin oynadigi rolu ele almaktadir. Makalenin ana amaci cografyacilarin Bolge Bilimi icindeki yerini saptayarak bu bilim alanina yaptigi katkiyi ortaya koymaktir. Bu cercevede Bolge Bilimi\\'nin tarihi, felsefesi ve yontemi uzerine yazilmis literatur incelenerek ilgili verilerin derlenmesi ve yorumlanmasi sonucu, Bolge Bilimi\\'nin dunu, bugunu, kurumsal yapisi, bilimsel faaliyetleri ve cografya ile olan iliskisi tarihsel bir perspektifle ortaya konmustur. Boylece calisma bir yandan Bolge Bilimi\\'nin basarilarini, kayiplarini, sorunlarini ve yakaladigi firsatlari tartisirken, ote yandan cografyacilarin Bolge Bilimi icinde edindigi yeri ampirik kanitlar ile ortaya koymaktadir. Buna gore Bolge Bilimi\\'nin kurumsal gelismesine onderlik eden baskanlarinin ucte biri ve Bolge Bilimi\\'nin en fazla atif olan 10 entelektuel liderlerinden ucu cografyacidir. Ayrica Bolge Bilimi dergilerinde yayinlanan makaleler ile bu bilim dalinda cigir acan kitaplarin ¼\\'u yine cografyacilara aittir. Sonuc olarak cografyacilar Bolge Bilimi\\'nin gelismesine hem kurumsal acidan, hem de bilimsel bakimdan cok onemli katkilar yapmislardir.\r\n\r\nThis paper deals with the historical development of regional science, focusing on the role of geographers within regional science from the 1950s to the present. The main purpose of this paper is to explain the role of geographers and their contributions to regional science. Based on various data and the literature, and using an interpretative framework, this paper presents the past and the present of regional science and its institutional structure, its scholarly activities and its relationship with geography from a historical perspective. Hence, the paper not only discusses its achievements, its failure and its problems as well as its opportunity of regional science, but also assesses empirically the place of geographers within regional science community. As a result, many geographers contributed significantly to regional science and helped in its development. Indeed, many prominent geographers who are among top ten intellectual leaders of regional science have written path-breaking books and influential journal articles in the field of regional science. As a consequence geographers played a major role both in the early stages of regional science and also in recent years.
